Whatever You Need...Sow the Seed! (Matthew 13:23; Colossians 1:6)

Updated: Feb 14

The purpose of this word study, is to demonstrate through scripture, the absolute certainty of the word of God to produce its desired effect in our lives.

Matthew 13:23 says, "... the person that hears the word, and understands... also bears fruit, and brings forth, some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty."

 DEFINITION:

BEARS FRUIT

This phrase refers not only to (1) the natural development of plants, but is used frequently with the metaphorical meaning of (2) consequences to actions, as well as (3) the offspring of people or animals.

Applying it to our lives, it is what we produce, and in the context of this passage, could refer to all three of the suggested meanings.

3 MEANINGS:

The word in our lives produces, through us:

 1)  Christian growth in character and Christ-like behavior, referred to as the "fruit" of the spirit. ( Gal. 5:22,23 )

2) Offspring, or other people being born of God, as a "natural" consequence, of us containing the word.

3) In keeping with the implied results mentioned, whatever type of seed it is, it contains the "nature" of the fruit, already in it, and given the proper conditions of soil, it will produce that fruit.

This specific Greek phrase, in scripture, is only used 8 times, ( Matt. 13:23; Mk. 4:20, 28; Lk. 8:15; Rm. 7:4.5; Col. 1:6, 10 ), three of which specifically refer to the parable of the 3 different types of soil.

 CONTINUOUS ACTIONN

The phrase used is in what is referred to as 'the present tense', emphasizing not only that the action is taking place, but that the action continues to take place.

There is enough inherent "energy" in the word of God, sown into our lives, that not only does it produce a harvest in our lives, of the nature of the type of seed that it is, but it continues to produce an on-going harvest, from being sown into us.

In fact, the 100, 60, 30, may not be so suggestive of different results in different people, but rather different degrees of harvest from the same word, in our lives.

Colossians 1:6, one of the texts where this Greek phrase is used, speaks of the word continuing to bring forth fruit, since the day we heard the word, and knew it - or had revelation; understanding of it's meaning.

In much the same way, as some of the crops in Israel, had more than one season when they were harvested, so God's word, in our lives, continues to produce a harvest, of whatever type of seed it is.

 DIFFERENT SEED

If you sow "healing seed" into the soil of your heart, it will produce a harvest; "faith seed" will produce an immediate, and on-going harvest; "financial prosperity" seed will produce a harvest; "love seed" will produce a harvest; "healthy relationship seed" will produce a harvest.

Whatever You Need, SOW the SEED!

You are God's Best and God's Best is Yours.
