TARGETING TRIGGERS

Updated: Dec 4, 2024

BOSTON

There is a song by the by-gone American rock band Boston called "More than a Feeling", and when I hear that song it takes me back visually to driving around, with my older brother, in his car, with the windows rolled down, and the music cranked up so that the whole block could have probably heard the music pumping out of the speakers. This memory also links me to other memories of events and circumstances of that time.

PERSONAL TRIGGERS

To some people, a certain place brings back a flood of memories, that may have been good or bad, depending on the circumstances at the time that the memory was created. The smell of certain foods can elicit fond memories for some, of growing up at home, or perhaps a memorable evening out with friends or loved ones, or remind them of some other time or place from their past. These sounds; smells; or places are all "triggers" that bring about an emotional reaction, or visual response to the trigger. Some triggers are probably best to avoid, like the alcoholic passing a liquor store, or any person easily succumbing to addictions that are negative, to keep themselves from any environment that is going to enforce or promote bad addictive behavior.

JUDE 20

One of the Bible Word Studies is titled the "Power of Prayer in Languages Never Learned". It is a study that deals with the Biblically promoted use of praying in other tongues [languages], and the enormous benefits derived from that action.

Jude 20 says, "But you divinely loved ones, of infinite value and worth to the Father, who sees you as priceless and beyond compare, create and develop in you, a dwelling and habitation for the Holy Spirit, where He feels at home and is comfortable living in you. Do this, strengthening yourself spiritually, by praying in tongues, in the Holy Spirit" [Paraphrase].

Ephesians 3:16-17 speaks of being, "...strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man so that Christ may dwell and be at home in our hearts, by faith..."

PRAYING in TONGUES

Praying in tongues, through the Holy Spirit, is of such enormous benefit, and the onus is on us to create those "triggers" in our lives, which automatically illicit the response of praying in the Spirit [tongues/other languages], to produce the desired spiritual results. In the same way, that music produces memories and emotions, or passing a bakery causes the "sweet tooth" to salivate, actions can stir up and engage praying in the Holy Spirit.

TONGUE-TRIGGERS

Personally, there are 3 "triggers" in my life, that without fail stir up, and cause the action of praying in other tongues [languages]:

1) listening to Kenneth Hagin's recorded audio teaching This teacher, who has gone on to Heaven, may not create that same response in you, but find out what or who, does.

2) listening to Alexander Scourby reading the New Testament [specifically the Pauline Epistles], or Proverbs, almost automatically and unconsciously, stirs up the Holy Spirit to begin to speak in tongues through me. This is not to say that other audio of the scriptures may not create the same response, but this specific audio definitely does.

3) Reading the scriptures out loud when I read. Again, the audible reading of the scriptures, especially with my own voice, out loud, almost without fail, causes me to habitually begin to pray in tongues over what I have just read.

FIND the TRIGGER

For you, it may be another preacher or teacher, depending on how your gifting and calling functions in and through you, but you need to find the "trigger" that initiates praying in tongues, through you as an automatic response, in the same way, that other "triggers" [food; music; places; events] cause automatic behavior responses.

PULL the TRIGGER

Target the triggers that control the behavior of praying in other tongues, in your life, whether it is worship music; teaching; preaching; listening to scripture, or reading the scripture out loud, to yourself. Create and cultivate a habitual atmosphere of strengthening yourself in the Holy Spirit, through praying in other tongues [languages].

You are God's Best and God's Best is Yours
