Joshua 1:8, "This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate in it both day and night, that you may observe to do all that is written in it, for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success".
SUCCESS
Money is a powerful medium, and for the most part, people exchange their lives to obtain finances, in order to live; pay debt obligations; and enjoy something beyond their present standard of living. Work is not a bad thing, nor is owning a business, and success spiritually; materially; socially, is not only not prohibited by scripture, but it is encouraged. If God did not want Joshua to succeed in his government and leadership of Israel, He would not have given him instruction on how to achieve success. However, God our father did want him to succeed, and He does want success for every area of our lives, including financial, so the admonition to Joshua still holds the secret of our success today:
DEPART
This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth...one of the meanings of the Hebrew word for "depart", is "to leave it's proper place". The proper place for God's word is in our mouth. We call it "God's Word", because it has it's origin; source; dynamic; and power, from God our Father, and God's word in our mouth has the same creative potential as God's word in His mouth.
MEDITATE
But you shall meditate in it day and night...obviously an exhortation speaking of constant; continued focus, in that when it is not day, it is night. In other words, we are always to keep the word before us, that God has spoken. We are to "meditate", not in some twisted, pseudo, religious sense of the word, but in the Hebrew meaning of "mutter; to mumble; to talk to yourself under your breath".
KENNETH E. HAGIN
Kenneth E Hagin was said to be always "talking to himself", constantly praying in tongues; muttering the scripture under his breath. There is no better "self-talk", then to speak what God says, constantly, and to "mumble" God's word out loud, to ourselves, and to pray quietly in other tongues/languages, over God's word that He has spoken to us. In a very literal sense, we are to go around "mumbling" God's word, keeping our focus on things above, to produce success in our lives.
OBSERVE TO DO
That you may observe to do, according to all that is written therein...constantly muttering/mumbling God's word, renews our mind to His word. What you focus your attention on, you will be attracted to. Actions are the children of our thoughts. We can control our thoughts by what we maintain our focus on, thus the necessity for Christian fellowship; studying the Word; and muttering/mumbling God's word; praying in other tongues.
PROSPEROUS
For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success...the most common word for "way", in the Hebrew, has the visual imagery of the repetitive action of walking back and forth in a certain direction, so much so that the "treading" creates a path that is followed.
Metaphorically, the word means a persons path in life. More specifically, we could speak of God's tailor made purpose for each of us individually, that we are to walk in to ultimately fulfill His destiny for us.
YOU
If we want to be all that God has created us to be, we need to mutter His word constantly. Notice that the scripture says, "...then YOU will make your way prosperous...". The responsibility for our individual success, as it was with Joshua, rests with us, to choose to meditate the word, to have good success.
You are God's Best and God's Best is Yours
