Revelation to Results (Philemon 6)

Updated: Feb 25

PHILEMON 6

"...the communication of your faith will become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus".

Philemon 6 is probably one of the most power packed verses in the Bible, dealing with revelation that produces results. For the most part, it doesn't matter what sermons we hear, it only matters what scripture penetrates, like seed in fertile soil, into our hearts, and brings forth fruit in our lives.

COMMUNICATION [KJV]

This is the Greek word (koinonia), [2842 in Strong's], signifying, 'the sharing; distribution; even imparting, of our faith'. For our faith to be communicated to others, the scriptures says that this happens when we acknowledge every good thing that is in us in Christ Jesus. It is not only that this acknowledging will cause our faith to be communicated, or imparted to others, but it will be done so "effectively".

EFFECTIVE [KJV]

This is the Greek word (energes), [1756 in Strong's], where we get the English word "energy" from, but used almost exclusively in Classical Greek referring to 'the effects and working of medicine or medical treatment'. It means 'powerful; operative; effective'. However, the phrase just before this Greek word, says that our faith "may become", seeming to indicate, in the English, the "possibility of" something happening.

MAY BECOME, is (ginomai), [1096]

This word indicates not a "possibility of", as the English would seem to indicate, but rather "to begin to be" or," to come into existence". The sharing and distribution, or imparting of our faith, 'comes into existence' as something powerful, and effective, which, like medicine, or medical treatment, from the moment it is administered, begins to effect change.

All of this happens in and through us, as we acknowledge, every good thing that is in us, in Christ Jesus. This word "acknowledge", is the pivotal point of the verse.

ACKNOWLEDGE [KJV]

This is not, as the English translation would seem to indicate, meaning to simply assent to something or someone; or give attention to; but more accurately, 'to consider something as true', as the Old English would seem to dictate, but even this falls short of the meaning in the Greek.

The word is (epignosis), [1922], which is much stronger than the root (gnosis), [1108], for whereas (gnosis) speaks more to 'a knowledge gained by experience, over time', and more derived from the senses, (epignosis) is a word coined for the scriptures, which speaks of 'an intimacy of understanding', that can happen in a moment, but attaining this understanding, produces in the recipient, conformity to the knowledge received. In other words, once we receive, or gain this knowledge, our manner of life and behavior is totally altered to act exactly like the knowledge we have gained.

REVELATION

This is revelation that produces results, and actions, in our lives according to what the scriptures declare. Once we have a revelation of truth, from God's word, that life is a certain way, we don't have to think about it; reason it out; analyze it, or figure it out, in any fashion, this revelation knowledge automatically 'changes our behavior' to be in conformity to His word.

This doesn't mean that confession; speaking the word concerning ourselves, out loud, isn't the means by which this (epignosis) comes into our lives, or at least one of the ways, but the point is, that from the moment we receive this supernatural knowledge, we begin to walk just like the scriptures declare, in that area of life.

PARAPHRASE: "...the impartation; communication; and sharing of our faith will come into existence, as something that is active; effective; and powerful, just like medical treatment, that from the moment it is administered, begins to produce results, as we have an intimate knowledge, that conforms our behavior to the revelation, of every good thing that is in us, in Christ Jesus".
