Package Deal (Ephesians 1:13)

Updated: 5 days ago

EPHESIANS 1:13 says, "...in whom you also, after you heard the word of truth, the announcement of the good news of the victory, of your salvation..."

IGNORANCE

The traditional saying is that "people are always down on, what they're not up on". In other words, if people don't understand something, they generally have a negative perspective about it, not based on knowledge, but more so based on actual ignorance of the subject under discussion.

SPACE

The English word "salvation", is from the Greek word (soteria), [4991, Strong's], which is partially defined from a Hebrew word, [similar to the Arabic (wasi'a)], meaning "to be roomy; broad", as opposed to oppression, which is defined as "narrowness; to choke; to envelop; to enwrap" or "to be hemmed in; constricted; oppressed". Oppression is viewed as a kind of spatial hemming in or imprisonment, so that rescue from oppression is a moving out into the open, to make it spacious for someone; to give him space (p.973, TDNT, Vol.7)

FREEDOM

Basically, salvation is a freedom from any type of imprisonment or restriction, that would prevent normal living or behavior, whether it is deliverance from the presence and influence of actual physical enemies; oppression of the mind; freedom from sickness and disease; or ultimately, rescue from the ravages of Satan and sin, and liberty into the life of Christ, both now and for eternity.

SALVATION

Salvation is the all encompassing word, defined as healing; preservation; soundness; deliverance; wholeness; completeness; eternal life; even prosperity.

COMPLETE DELIVERANCE

The Greek understanding of (soteria) was that of well-being and health of body and soul. In OT Jewish thought, (soteria) was complete deliverance from all their physical enemies.

(SOZO)

It is interesting, that in the New Testament accounts of healing, even though the English uses words such as "made whole" or "healed"; at least 16 times, the Greek word is actually (sozo), "saved".

SAVED

"...a woman who had an issue of blood, flowing, for 12 years, came behind Him, and touched the fringe of His garment; for she said within herself, 'if I only touch His garment, I shall be whole (sozo, 'saved')" (Matt.9:20,21)

DOING GOOD

Jesus, referring to healing the man with the paralyzed hand, said, "Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? To save (sozo) life, or to kill?" (Mk.3:4)

HEALED

Jairus said, "My little daughter is lying at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed (sozo, 'saved'); and she shall live" (Mk.5:23)

WHOLE

Again, the account of the woman with the issue of blood, she said, "if I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole (sozo, 'saved') (Mk.5:28)

JESUS SAID...

Jesus said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you whole (sozo,'saved'). Go in peace and be whole (sozo,'saved') of your plague" (Mk.5:34)

MADE WHOLE

"And wherever He entered, into villages; or cities; or country; they laid the sick in the streets, and besought Him that they might touch, if it were, but the border of His garment; and as many as touched Him were made whole (sozo,'saved') (Mk.6:56)

YOUR FAITH

Referring to the healing of the blind man, "...Jesus said to him, 'Go your way; your faith has made you well (sozo, 'saved'). And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus on the way (Mk.10:52)

SAVE or DESTROY

Again, referring to the man with the paralyzed hand, Jesus said, "Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil; to save (sozo) life, or to destroy?" (Lk.6:9)

HEALED

Referring to the man that had the "Legion" of demons, "They also who saw told them by what means he that was possessed of the demons was healed (sozo, 'saved') (Lk.8:36)

YOUR FAITH

Referring to the woman with the issue of blood, "...He said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has made you well (sozo, 'saved'). Go in peace." (Lk.8:48)

BELIEVE ONLY

Referring to Jairus' daughter, Jesus said, "Fear not; believe only, and she shall be made well (sozo, 'saved') (Lk.8:50)

FAITH HAS MADE YOU

To the leper that was cleansed He said, "Arise, go your way; your faith has made you well (sozo,'saved') (Lk.17:19)

FAITH HAS SAVED YOU

To the blind man He said, "Receive your sight; your faith has saved (sozo) you. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him.." (Lk.18:42,43)

GOOD DEED

Referring to the man that was healed, who was lame from birth, Peter said, "If we are on trial, being cross-examined for the good deed done to the helplessly lame man, by what means he is made well (sozo, 'saved')...by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,...does this man stand before you in health...for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (sozo)" (Acts 4:9-12)

STAND UP

"There used to sit in the streets at Lystra, a man, who had no strength in his feet, he was a cripple from birth, who had never walked in his life. This man was listening to Paul speaking; and Paul, fixing his gaze on him, perceived that he had faith to be healed (sozo, 'saved'), and shouted at him in a loud voice, saying, 'stand up on your feet', and the man sprang up and began walking around.(Acts 14:8-10)

FAITH SHALL HEAL

"And the prayer of faith shall heal (sozo) the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up..." (James 5:15).

PACKAGE DEAL

All of these scriptures illustrate one important fact: Salvation and healing are the same thing; or, to put it another way, if you have faith for salvation, you have faith for healing. It is a "package deal".
