ROMANS 8:31-34
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? Shall God that justifies? Who is he that condemns? Shall Christ, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us?
COURTROOM
The language of this passage describes a courtroom session: our Father is the judge, our elder brother, Jesus Christ the righteous, is our defense attorney, and the devil, the accuser of the brethren, is the prosecuting attorney bringing charges and accusations against us. Our testimony determines whether we side with our attorney, Christ Jesus, and our Father, the judge, or if the words of our mouth agree with the charges of the devil, resulting in a 'guilty' verdict upon us.
ISAIAH 54:17
No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is from me, says the LORD.
WEAPON
The weapon, (keli), 3627, is 'fashioned', or 'formed' (yusar), 3335, but it 'won't succeed' or 'won't reach its aim' (saleah), 6743. The 'weapon' is designed to hurt you, but it doesn't touch you.
TONGUE (lason), 3956, is not gossip, but 'a sworn accusation' against you in court.
RISES AGAINST YOU
The phrase is (taqum la-mispat), where RISES, (qum), 6965, is a legal idiom for a witness taking the stand against someone in court, and JUDGMENT, (mispat), 4941, is the trial or proceeding itself.
CONDEMN
This is a declarative forensic verb, (rasa), 7561, meaning, ''you shall pronounce guilty". It is like the ball is now in your court, or you now have control, and the very people who sought to declare you guilty, are the ones found to have broken the law, and are actually declared guilty!
HERITAGE
This is what legally belongs to the accused party, specifically relevant to legally deeded land, or an estate (nahalah), 5159, but generally, to anything that legally belongs to the accused.
RIGHTEOUSNESS
This specifically means, "their vindication (sedaqa), 6666, is 'from Me' ", indicating that the LORD orchestrates this whole process, turning the evil the devil intended against you on its head.
GREEK
The LXX is even more explicit with the Greek meaning paraphrased:
"The testimony given, when they stand up to testify, I will not allow it [i.e., God Himself will intervene, as judge], and you will worst them, and they shall be found legally liable, and answerable to the court, as guilty. They shall be liable to you in the trial, and although they came as plaintiffs, bringing the charges, they will become the defendants inside the very proceedings they opened. You will be vindicated and they will be declared guilty."
