JOSHUA 1:8 says, [PARAPHRASE]:
"When these words of God, your Father, are constantly in your mouth, and you are mumbling and murmuring them day and night, your action of constantly; continuously, muttering and speaking His words, under your breath, will cause you to do His word; His will, as a way of life, fulfilling His plan and purpose for your life, and as a result, you will be prosperous, and successful, in whatever you do"
PSALM 1:2-3 says, [PARAPHRASE]:
"When your passion and desire is to hear the words of your Father, God, and you are constantly; continuously, muttering; mumbling; murmuring His words, under your breath, then you will be like a tree planted by irrigation channels, or rivers of water, that causes you, irrespective of the climate or condition, because you are always drawing on the source of life giving water, to always, constantly, and continuously, to be bringing forth fruit, at the right time, in the right season. You won't ever get dried up or wither, because you are connected to the source of life, even if it is desert all around you. You will be succeeding and successful, no matter what the conditions or circumstances".
MEDITATE
The Hebrew pictograph for the word translated "meditate", in both Joshua 1:8, and Psalm 1:2, is formed from the Hebrew letter "hey", and the Hebrew letter "gam".
HEY
"Hey" is kind of a "stick man" drawing of a man with his arms raised up, vertically, on each side, symbolizing pointing at something, as if to say, "look; behold; wow look at that", at some great sight. The "stick man" drawing eventually was turned to the right, on its side, and became the modern English letter "E", with the bottom part of the legs of the "stick man", lost, over time.
GAM
"Gam" is the drawing of a foot, resembling an upper case, or capital "L", but two dimensional, with double lines, to look more like a foot, similar to the Egyptian hieroglyphic, with the same meaning. "Gam" is actually where the English word "game" comes from, as something people play with their feet. Over time, the Hebrew pictograph became the English letter "G".
WORD PICTURES
There are a couple of very strong images derived from this Hebrew pictographic. The one image is that of walking; going; but more so of "gathering together". The imagery is from an arid; dry climate, where water was the source of sustaining all life, and essential to all aspects of living, so the imagery is not just of "gathering together", but animals; people; etc., "gathering together" at the watering hole, or source of water, which could be a spring, or pool of water, (oasis), in the desert.
(HAGAH)
The first letter, "hey" is repeated in the word, translated "meditate", so the letters that form the Hebrew word are "hey-gam-hey", which is transliterated as "hagah", [ The first "a" being a long "a" vowel sound and the second being a consonant. The second long "a" vowel sound is pronounced, in "hey", but not written, and the "m" in "gam" is neither written nor pronounced, so a more proper depiction of the pronunciation, would be "hey-ga-hey"].
DEFINITION
The meaning of "hey", is to look or behold something of wonder, or awe-inspiring, or, as the actions of the person pointing at this amazing sight indicate, "to reveal", while "gam" has the meaning of "gathering together", and specifically, at the watering hole, or source of sustaining life. The combination of these two pictographic letters together, has the meaning of "revelation that comes from the gathering together from the source of life, implying the words of the Spirit, that produces even more revelation".
GATHERING TOGETHER
In a very practical sense, when we mull over; mutter; and speak under our breath; praying in tongues, or our native language, the holy scriptures, putting them together with one another; combining scripture with scripture, and one passage or verse, with another, the gathering together of these thoughts and ideas of the Holy Spirit, begins to form a vivid picture, in our inner most being, of His specific instruction and communication to us individually, and this "gathering together" of His thoughts and ideas produces more and more revelation of who He is; who we are; and His plan and purpose for our lives, that we live out on a day to day basis, fulfilling that same plan and purpose.
