DARK ROOM
If you have ever gone into a dark room and not known where the light switch is, you tend to stumble around until you eventually find the switch. Instantly, you know where you are and can see clearly to find what you are looking for. Interestingly enough, when you turn on the light, there is no battle between the dark and the light for dominance; as soon as the light comes on, the darkness is gone.
PSALM 119:105"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" (KJV).
TWO WORDS
Two different words describe light:
(ner), 'lamp,' a small oil lamp. It didn't throw light very far, but it illuminated the immediate step; literally, where your foot was about to step.
(or), 'light', is more like daylight, a much broader diffusion of light. The scripture says that it shows the path [(orach), a well trodden way, or metaphorically, the course of life].
DIRECTION in LIFE
This scripture, and these words show the importance of saturating ourselves in the Word of God, which gives us direction in life.
Lamp/feet = immediate, close-range guidance for the next step you are to take.
Light/path = long term, the direction in life you are to go, and to steer yourself.
The Word of God gives us enough light for the next step, but also points us in the right direction for the road ahead.
You are God's Best and God's Best is Yours
