1 Peter 2:2 says, "...as newborn babes, desire the pure; unadulterated; milk of the word, that you may grow by it..."
TRANSLATING
As in translating from any language, the challenge is to try to convey from the original language, the thoughts and expressions found in that language, into the language that one is seeking to communicate in.
The phrase, "of the word", translates one word in the Greek, that is only found twice in the NT. It's other location is Romans 12:1, where it is translated " reasonable". Neither of these English translations fully grasp the import of the word.
LOGIC
The transliteration of the word is "logikos", which is derived from "logos", translated as "word", and pertains, in several uses to speech, but it is where our English word "logic" is derived from. The reference in the text is to the words spoken by God, but the meaning conveyed, is that:
"...as newborn babes, crave; desire; (and yes, it is their necessary sustenance for survival) the pure breast milk of their mother... it is the most logical thing in the world, for us to desire God's pure milk for our sustenance and survival, so that we may grow and flourish." (Paraphrase)
In other words, once you have the revelation of who you are, ...i.e. who you have your origins in; where you come from and derive your spiritual life and existence from...IT JUST MAKES SENSE to be tapped into, and draw life and strength from the source of your life, that provides you with your necessary "food" to live by. It is "logical", that babies require and crave after, their pure mother's milk.
DEMAND
What is also conveyed, but not translated, is that babies do not crave or desire their mother's breast milk because they have reasoned it through that is a necessity for their growth and development, but rather, their infant bodies demand the breast milk. There is an immediate addiction; a longing; built into their system to demand to be satisfied with that sustenance, that will not be denied. So it is with our spiritual nature, that it demands the pure milk of God's word, and spiritually longs after it for satisfaction. This demand is spiritually "logical" for our new nature; a necessary requirement for our growth and development. It just makes sense.
You are God's Best and God's Best is Yours
