RARE
At the time of this writing, the most expensive coin in the world, is a 1794-1795 silver dollar coin made of 90% silver and 10% copper. It is named "Flowing Hair", because of the stamped image of the head of "Liberty", with her hair flowing down the back of her neck, and valued at $10 million. What makes it valuable, is that it was the first U.S. silver dollar ever minted, and it is very rare.
VALUABLE
The most valuable comic book in the world is the original Action Comics #1, that introduced the world to superman, and was purchased in August, 2014, for $3.2 million. It too is very rare.
HIGH PRICE
Obviously, when these items were originally created, neither the labor, nor materials in their production, was any reflection of the cost they are now valued at; but time and scarcity have contributed to setting an extremely high price on them.
ESTABLISHING WORTH
The price that is paid for the item establishes the value of the item, and in a very real sense, the item is worth more than, [that is, it is more valuable, to the purchaser, than], what they are willing to pay for the item.
HIGHER VALUE
This principal is evident every day of our lives. We purchase clothes; groceries; meals; things, with some monetary means, and if we did not esteem these items to be more valuable to us, than the money we exchange for them, we would keep our money, and not purchase the items. However, we want the items, even, need, the items, and so we give something less valuable [the money], for something that we place a higher value upon [the items].
(PERIPOESIS)
In Biblical Greek, there is the word (peripoiesis), [4047, Strongs], which is unfortunately translated 5 different ways in the KJV :
Purchased Possession (Eph.1:14)
To Obtain (1 Thes.5:9)
The Obtaining (2 Thes.2:14)
The Saving (Heb.10:39)
Peculiar (1 Pet.2:9) [definitely a poor translation]
COMPLETELY
The word is a compound word from (peri), [4012], and (poieo), [4160].
(Peri) has the idea of "all around", or completely surrounding or encompassing something, and carrying the implication of totally; completely; fully.
TO MAKE
(Poieo) has a wide variety of applications, but basically means, "to make", or "do".
COMPLETELY SURROUNDED
When combined together, the derived meaning is, 'to make something completely surrounded'; to completely encompass it; and in so doing, to acquire it as your own valuable possession. The emphasis is on completely and thoroughly possessing the item, and preserving and keeping it safe, for yourself, because it is valuable to you. The item is possessed; protected and preserved.
MATTHEW 13:44 Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which when a man has found it, he hides it, and for joy of it goes and sells all that he has, and buys the field.
MATTHEW 13:45-46 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant man, seeking fine pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
PRECIOUS PEARL & TREASURE
We are the precious pearl and we are the treasure in the field of the world, that the Father gave His very best, to redeem from sin and death, to acquire us as His very own valuable, preserved and protected possession.
INFINITE WORTH
You are of infinite worth, because the very highest price possible was paid for you. You are one of a kind, making you even more valuable, because you are so rare. You are obviously worth more, than the price that was paid for you, or the Father would never have paid the price, unless He saw that His acquisition was worth more than what He was paying for it.
You are God's Best and God's Best is Yours
