God Shows Up! (2 Timothy 3:16)

Updated: Feb 15

2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God..."

INSPIRATION

The word translated "inspiration" is only used here in the Greek, Old and New Testaments, and was evidently coined by Paul, through the Holy Spirit.

The word cannot be accurately translated as "inspiration", because the Greek term has to do specifically, with what is "breathed", not what is "breathed-in".

It's NOT there

Also, the phrase, "is given by", is not in the original Greek text.

A more accurate, literal translation would be, "All scripture actively breathes God.."

OUT LOUD

Historically, Jewish people had no concept of reading scriptures to themselves. Whether privately or publicly, scripture was always read out loud. They believed that when scripture was spoken, God was breathed, or manifested.

Titus 1:3 says God manifested His word through preaching. [proclaiming].

Romans 1:14-15 speaks of the power of the gospel being in its announcement.

Luke 8:1 says Jesus went throughout every city and village, preaching and announcing the good news of the kingdom.

T.L.OSBORN

Apostle and missionary statesman T.L. Osborn, who at the time, with his wife Daisy, in over 50 years of ministry, probably saw more of the supernatural miraculous of God's working, than any other human person alive, is quoted as saying, "... the power is in the announcement!"

The scripture, when it is boldly declared, breathes God, or God shows up!

AFFIRMATION:

I choose to boldly declare God's word concerning my life, and God, my Father, will manifest Himself in my life and circumstances.

DIGGING DEEPER:

There are three different words, in the Greek, that could have been used, in 2 Timothy 3:16, regarding "breath" or "breathing".

BREATHING

EXPNEO - means to breath out [exhale]; blow out, or to stop breathing [i.e., to die]. If this word were used, the compound would have been (theoexpneo), "breathes out God".

EMPNEO - means to breath in [inhale]; to inspire; or to blow into something. If this were the word used, the compound would have been (theoempneo), "breathes in God", or loosely, "inspiration".

PNEU - This word means dynamic; powerful movement of air; to breath [to be alive]; to blow; to radiate. This is the word used in 2 Timothy 3:16, to form the compound (theopneustos), "breathes God"

ACTIVE

Another fact that is important concerning this compound, is that the word is what is termed "active" in Greek grammar. The other two Greek words regarding "breathing" may well have described some activity that took place in the past, where God "inspired" the origin of scriptures, but this compound, that is used, by the Holy Spirit, describes something that is ''on going, constant, and consistent in activity".

In other words, when the scriptures are read out loud, they constantly, continually, in a dynamic, powerful fashion "Breathe God".

This is the reason that the scripture is profitable for doctrine; reproof; correction; and instruction in righteousness. It is not just words, but the scripture "Breathes God". His very presence is manifested, to produce change in our lives.

It was not a one time event that occurred, to strengthen our faith in the divine authenticity of the Word, but rather, the living, vibrant, all powerful God is 'breathed' through scripture every time His gospel is announced, and He confirms His word, with signs following! (Mk. 16:20).

AFFIRMATION: The scriptures breathe God, my Father, every time I read; announce; or confess them out loud!

You are God's Best and God's Best is Yours
