Energy of God (Ephesians 1:12; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; James 5:16; Philemon 6; Joshua 1:8)

EPHESIANS 1:12 speaks of the Father who "...works all things after the counsel of His will.."

(PARAPHRASE) "...He produces the results, that He has deliberately decided on, that fulfill His desire...".

WORKS

The Greek word translated "works" is (energia) [1754, Strong's], from which we get the English word "energy". There is another related Greek word called (dynamis), [1411, Strong's], from which we get the English word "dynamite".

POWER

(Dynamis) is the latent potential power, awaiting release, through some channel, into some situation, like the woman with the flow of blood, for 12 years, who touched Jesus' cloak, and immediately power went out of Him, and immediately, the woman was healed. (Dynamis) is latent power. It is power that is waiting to be released, or activated, but it is not active. It is sitting dormant, until some action releases that power; in this case, the woman's faith, expressed in word and action.

ENERGY

(Energia) is 'action that produces results'. It is used historically, of a productive field; an effective siege ramp against a city; people active in their positions or vocations; and medicine and surgery, that is 'effective in producing the desired results'.

ACTION which PRODUCES

(Energia) is not just action, but 'it is always action which produces the desired and purposed results'. In fact, the root of this compound word, is (en), [the most frequent preposition in the whole NT], meaning "in", but more specifically, the idea of "within" a place, and (ergos), "work", so that (energia), is "to be actively working in".

MODERN HOUSE

In comparing the two words, we could think of a modern house, wired for electricity, that even has the electricity turned on at it's source. However, the electricity or "power", flowing through those wires, is not being used, or implemented, until someone turns on a light switch; plugs in an appliance; or makes a connection somewhere, to place a demand on the power, to activate the power that is waiting, and at the disposal of anyone who wishes to use it.

FLOW of POWER

By comparison, the 'latent power' in the house is (dynamis), but 'the flow of that power, to produce the desired results', is (energia).

ACCESS POWER

What is important is not just that there is power available to us, but that we know how to access that power, so that it is released into and through our lives.

1 THESSALONIANS 2:13 says that the new converts received the message announced to them, not as the words of men, but as it truly is, the word of God, which also exerts energy (energia) in Believers [ones having faith], or is "...set in operation in you.." [Vocabulary of the Greek Testament, Moulton and Milligan]. In other words, 'the word of God is made operative, or effective, by faith, causing, or producing the desired results'.

JAMES 5:16 says that, "...much prevails (by the) supplication [prayer requests] being energized by a righteous person..." Again, the emphasis is on a person actually speaking, that believes, that causes the word of God to become active; effective; or powerful, in it's working.

PHILEMON 6, says that "...the communication; sharing; or impartation (koinonia) of our faith comes into existence (ginomai) as something that is operative; energized; effective (energes) by the revelation knowledge (epignosis) of every good thing that exists in us, in Christ Jesus".

JOSHUA 1:8

Much has been said about confessing the scripture, which is extremely important, so much so, that God said, even COMMANDED, Joshua, the leader of the whole nation of Israel, that "...this book of the law SHALL NOT depart [leave it's proper place] out of your mouth, but YOU SHALL meditate [constantly be murmuring and mumbling the scriptures...a prelude to praying in other tongues] in the scriptures day and night [that's all the time, because if it's not day it's night], that you may observe [be diligent] to do according to all that is written in the scriptures [constant meditation changes behavior to be in conformity to the word]; for then, YOU SHALL make your way prosperous, and then YOU SHALL have good success!".

These are the facts:

1) UNLIMITED POWER (dynamis) - We have the Holy Spirit, God Himself, the creator of the universe, living in us.

2) MEDITATION to REVELATION - By constantly meditating the scriptures, there comes revelation (epignosis), which by definition, has the ability to cause our behavior to conform to the revelation received. [Which is what Philemon 6 and Joshua 1:8 are talking about].

3) RELEASING the POWER (energia) - This results from speaking the Word, or acting on the word, AFTER we have the revelation (epignosis) concerning those scriptures. Simply speaking the scripture concerning anything, before it is reality in our lives [revelation], does not produce the desired results. The desired results come from energy released, through speaking the word of God, that is revelation to us.

ENERGY RELEASED

If we consider the illustration of a house, with power flowing through the wires, the "energy" is released, when someone takes action; speaks the word, that they have revelation (epignosis) concerning, that causes that word to come into effect.

SPEAKING the WORD

The speaking of that word, or acting on that word, is what we call faith, but prior to faith, comes the revelation of the reality of the scripture, that causes us to automatically conform in behavior, to the scripture, whether speaking or acting, to release the power of God, because we know (epignosis), without a shadow of a doubt, that the scripture will come into manifestation in our lives, and the power of God will be released into our circumstances.
