Casting the Dice (Ephesians 1:11)

Updated: Mar 3

EPHESIANS 1:11 says that "...we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things after the counsel of His own will..."

NO LIMIT

The word (prohorizo) is dealt with earlier in 1:5, where here again, it is where we get the word "horizon" from, and speaks not of some predetermined, unchangeable destiny, that robs people of choice or determination, but rather of the fact that the unlimited boundaries of the Father's choice for us, are like the horizon, where the closer we get to it, the further the expanse seems to stretch, so that there is no limit to the inheritance that He has given to us, as it is ever expansive and far reaching, beyond what we can totally comprehend, but there for us to explore!

CASTING DICE

The phrase, "obtained an inheritance", is all one word in the Greek, derived from (kleroo), 2820,[strong's] meaning, "to choose by lot". (kleroo), is a derivative of the verb (klao), 2806 [strong's], "to break", originally of bread, but specifically referring to 'bits of wood, or die that were cast'. The Greeks, and from them, the Romans, took pieces of wood and marked them, or wrote the name of the individuals, involved in the selection, onto the markers; put them in a container, and violently shook them. The container was then emptied out, and the first die, or piece of wood that fell out was considered to mark out the divinely selected individual.

CHOOSING US

This whole process is where we get games that use dice for various means of entertainment with others. The emphasis, historically, is that of our Father writing our name on a die, and specifically choosing us for the task or more so, the inheritance and calling of His selection for us. This again, is an example of the Father's love and care for us individually, and corporately, designating, by His plan His choice of us, and for us.

KNOWN by NAME

What is totally awesome, is that He wrote down our names; knows us by name; and selected us, by name, for the totally fulfilling purpose of our lives, in His kingdom, that has an ever increasing, expansive, unlimited potential, for us and His kingdom purposes [(prohorizo)].

You are God's Best and God's Best is Yours
