Jude 20 says, ''But you, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit...''
Next to praying [speaking] the word out loud; reading the word out loud; meditating the word [speaking the word out loud to yourself], praying in other languages, [or as we commonly say, ''praying in tongues''], is a significantly powerful spiritual dynamic in our lives.
BUILDING UP...ON - These words, meaning ''to edify'', are normally used to mean ''to build a structure'', like one would build a house, but here the Greek word is one single word formed from a compound of words. The meaning is to ''build a superstructure'', [or as the Latin vulgate suggests, a ''super edifice''], on a firm foundation, that is ''continually going higher and higher''.
Christ lives inside all Believers, and we can have a ''normal'' house for Him to live in, but praying in other languages [tongues], builds a superstructure for Christ to live in [both corporately and individually], that is constantly going higher and higher. The visual imagery, is that every time we pray in another language [tongues], we are constantly adding another brick to the building.
According to 1 Corinthians 14, when we are praying [speaking] in other languages [tongues]:
1) it is the equivalent of prophecy, so it is for our edification, exhortation, and comfort (14:3)
2) in the spirit we speak mysteries (14:2) directly to God, our Father
3) our spirit prays (14:14), so it's always in line with God's will
4) part of our speaking in other languages is blessing and thanking God (14:16-18),[i.e., praising Him]
5) we are not instructing others when we pray in other languages, but we are [by the Holy Spirit], teaching our selves (14:19)
6) and as with prophecy, the secrets of our heart are made manifest (14:25) [i.e., God, through our spirit, shows us things to come concerning our life and ministry.]
It does not mean that those Believers who do not pray in other tongues are any less saved, or do not have an intimate relationship with the Father, but this aspect of intimacy is available to all and is experienced daily by multiplied millions of Believers around the world, and as the scripture says, enables us to build a superstructure for Christ to dwell in.
Both the ministries of Kenneth E. Hagin and Oral Roberts came out of what God spoke to them while they were praying in other tongues. Praying in tongues, in many ways, is the door to your spiritual future, and without this spiritual dynamic we are missing a key ingredient to spiritual success.
Make it a goal to pray in tongues daily, to build yourself a ''superstructure'' for the Lord, continually going higher and higher.
You are God's Best and God's Best is Yours.
