An Established Fact (Matthew 13:23; Hebrews 6:14;)

Updated: Feb 14

God's word concerning you is an established fact.

Matthew 13:23 says, "... he that hears the word, and understands, ... also bears fruit, and brings forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty."

PARTICLE

This word study concerns another "particle", that is very emphatic in its use, yet not translated in the text, into the English.

This word is used over 180 times in the Greek New Testament, and yet is only translated into the English about 1/3 of those times.

The word comes from the term translated into the English that gives us the expression "Amen". It is from the later part of this compound, in the Greek text.

SURELY

To understand its meaning, we may look at the way it is compounded with another particle, found in the NT, only in Hebrews 6:14, translated, "... SURELY, blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee."

The word translated "surely", is only used, in the LXX and its one NT use, concerning the swearing of oaths in covenant.

All of its classical Greek usage also seems confined to the swearing of oaths.

This compound, as with our particle under study, adds force to the phrase or sentence, 'conveying that what is stated is most certain; an established fact'.

A more literal rendering of these two particles could be, "... Truly, Certainly, Yes, Most Assuredly, blessing I will bless you,.."

In a greater attempt to distinguish them, Bullinger translates, "...SURELY in blessing I will MOST CERTAINLY bless you.."

MATTHEW 13:23 (Paraphrase)

"... it is  EMPHATICALLY CERTAIN, CONTINUALLY, UNTIL FULFILLED, that the word will bear fruit, and it is MOST CERTAIN that it will bring forth 100; 60; 30 times as much..."

COVENANT LANGUAGE

Again, the language is that of oaths made in covenant, to convey the infallible certainty of their fulfillment.

The use of the particle in Matthew 13:23 only serves to reinforce the strength of the particle already used, translated as "also", in the text. [ see Emphatically, Certainly, Continually ]. God is reinforcing, in essence, what He has already stated, to convey the absoluteness of His word.

What is conveyed in the text, is that those of the good ground, understand the word, and it is an established certainty, that the word will continually bear fruit in their lives, and it is most certain, that there will be multiple harvests from that word that has been sown.

Whatever word of promise has been sown into you contains the life of God, and has an established certainty that it will grow up, produce, and be fulfilled in your life.

God's word produces what it was sown to accomplish. It is an established fact, as certain as any aspect of His covenant.

You are God's Best and God's Best is Yours.
